A Conversation with Innocence

Wanted to share and pen down yesterday, but busy as I was missed the penning of an experience. Not many things, incidents captivate me or capture my day’s schedule. In the run for race for success, Center of attraction, Team praise, work for team, more precisely can be called as a Race for Self Gratification, we often miss the innocence of life. Amma Appa had been to Mandya and Soni who is 4 years - (Shilpa’s (my younger sister’s) daughter) had come over to my place. I was running about between my daughter and Soni on my heels. They kept me busy, making me cater to their area of interests. Their area of interests varied every few minutes like the fluttering wings of a butterfly. Were we not like this, down so many lanes and years ? Yea, getting back to the experience I experienced with her – after a sumptuous lunch, the globe caught Soni’s attention. Picking it up, Soni walked up to me rolling the globe and circumambulating around it asked me, “Shubha Amma, can you, can you teach me how to visit places here ? And , how many Indias are in this globe ? Srujana, my lil one guffawed at her, mockingly sniggered, “How many Indias ? “Soni, there is only one India. And it is here we are all living, pointing at the place in the globe. Soni, was also quick to retort “I know Srujanaa, there is only one India, but still don’t you see, there are so many Indias in this glove pointing at the different countries”. So many Indias made me ponder and get back to the lane of few lines I had read sometime back and lost the trail of it behind the curtains of my memory. It goes like this - I know nothing of hatred, Intolerance, racism, sexism, Bigotry, indoctrination, Homophobia and prejudice. ……… Choose well.. I would change it in the thoughts of Soni – I know nothing of boundaries of not to go here or there, The boundaries of not to touch this or not to allow myself to be touched, The boundaries of don’t eat this, or don’t drink this, All I know is I can go here, I can go there, I can go everywhere. I am like the wind which can fly with its wings everywhere. Touch you, hold you, cuddle you and still move on… Child as I am, I do not know any boundaries.? Or is it a must I must know ? So many Indias now intrigues me as I lay my thoughts while writing this. So many barricades, undecided and unsolved barriers, unquestioned answers, but still the children around us grow in bliss and power and strength of their Innocence and amidst a world of unexplored challenges. Hats off to all Soni’s and Sruajana’s here and everywhere. This is to remind ourselves in the epilogue of this thought sharing process. WE WERE ALL INNOCENT ONCE, There is a CHILD in EACH one of us, Who comes out in front of the person, We are most COMFORTABLE with.
